Birth*John W. Rickets was born circa 1813 in North Carolina (based on the 1850 census; most of the census found for his children indicate he was born in Tennessee, this is the only census found for him and as he was probably giving the information to the census taker I feel that he was probably born in North Carolina.)1 
Birth-note There is doubt that John is a son of Samuel and Nelly Ray as he was not mentioned in an 1850 deed of gift. I have left him here at this time as DNA testing has shown he is part of this family and I have no where else to connect him. 
Marriage*He married Mary W. Rickets, daughter of William Ricketts and Elizabeth Hart, on 15 October 1835 at Maury County, Tennessee, by James W. Grimes (Samuel Rickets was bondsman).1,5,6,7,3,4,8
